Born in England, Paul Birchall completed his studies in Fine Art at the Wimbledon School of Art in London and later at the Delhi School of Art in India. Initially trained in photography, he has also worked across printmaking, painting, ceramics, and music composition. Before relocating to Cape Town, Birchall exhibited regularly in London and worked in the printmaking studios of London Contemporary Art, a fine art publishing house. He currently teaches as a part-time lecturer in traditional painting at the Ruth Prowse School of Art in Cape Town. In recent years, Birchall has been developing a multi-faceted project titled The Island, in conjunction with two artist residencies at WerkRaum Warteck in Basel, Switzerland.
