David Bellamy is an artist, scientist, textile designer, and environmentalist. In 2018, he founded the Museum of Making and Tomorrow (MOMAT) as a platform for “thinking, making and communicating,” launching it with the group exhibition Artist’s Textiles at the Irma Stern Museum, University of Cape Town. Bellamy’s paintings, sculptural vessels, textile designs, and “slow clothes” reflect his deep engagement with the natural world — the source of both his inspiration and materials. His fabrics are produced using labour-intensive, artisanal methods in the textile studio adjoining his home. He holds a BSc in Advanced Biology (University of the Witwatersrand), a BA (Hons) in Fine Art and Critical Studies (Central Saint Martins, London), and has also studied Zen Shiatsu and Traditional Chinese Medicine at the London College of Shiatsu.
