Made by Lovemore & Moshe

A near pair of hand-painted and glazed ceramic soup bowls and underplates.

The story of Ardmore began in 1985, when Fée Halsted embarked on a journey teaching ceramics to a talented group of rural artists on a farm in a remote corner of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. The name Ardmore derives from the Gaelic for “high place” and the Latin for “zealous” or “ardent.” This spirit of passion and dedication has defined Halsted’s vision from the outset. After earning her degree in Fine Arts from the University of Natal, she lectured briefly before moving to Ardmore Farm in the Champagne Valley, at the foot of the Drakensberg Mountains, where the studio was born. From its humble beginnings, Ardmore has grown into South Africa’s leading ceramic art studio, renowned internationally for its distinctive collaborative style. Today, it supports the livelihoods of more than 80 local artists, fostering creativity, community, and excellence in ceramic art.
