Born in 1960 in the Free State, JP Meyer matriculated in 1978 and spent fifteen years as an international flight attendant with South African Airways. In 1996, he left corporate life to pursue art full-time, studying at the Foundation School of Art in Cape Town and graduating cum laude with a Diploma in Fine Art (Painting) in 2000. Meyer’s first solo exhibition was at the Association of Visual Arts (AVA) in 2003, and he has since held numerous solo, joint, and group exhibitions. His work is represented in corporate and private collections, including SASOL, Rand Merchant Bank, Hollard, Nando’s UK, and Macmillan Publishing. Now based in Porterville, Meyer is celebrated as both a colourist and storyteller, creating bold, intuitive paintings that merge contemporary culture, ancient mythologies, and the playful visual language of comics and colouring books. His work is a spontaneous, imaginative dialogue of narrative, symbol, and colour, where each canvas unfolds as an unanticipated surprise.
