Born in Semnan, Iran, in 1996, Kamyar Bineshtarigh is a Cape Town-based artist working across a variety of media. His practice explores language, communication, and the movement, migration, and displacement of humankind. Bineshtarigh holds a Diploma in Fine Art from the Ruth Prowse School of Art (2019), where he received the Ruth Prowse Award for An Exhaustive Catalogue of Texts Dealing with the Orient, and a BA (Hons) in Contemporary Art from Cape Town Creative Academy (2024). He has been recognised with the Simon Gerson Prize (UCT, 2021) and a Creative Knowledge Resources Fellowship from the National Research Foundation and UCT. His work often engages text and Arabic calligraphy as a means to explore mark-making, translation, and the cultural complexities of meaning. Employing canvas, ink, pencil, shards of glass, and layers of paint, he creates immersive, site-specific installations that layer material and metaphor, inviting viewers into contemplative, enveloping environments.
