Jolie Graca is a South African artist whose work explores spirituality, identity, and heritage, drawing deeply from her personal experiences and African cultural traditions. Her practice is marked by a spiritual depth, reflecting her journey as a follower of Christ and her contemplation of the body as a temple of the divine. Graca’s large-scale drawings often depict figures that symbolize maternal presence and ancestral wisdom, evoking a connection between past and present, the seen and the unseen. Through these works, she weaves narratives of guidance, protection, and spiritual reflection, inviting viewers into a space of contemplation and reverence. In 2019, she was shortlisted for the Sasol New Signatures Award, recognising her distinctive approach to merging personal, cultural, and spiritual themes within a contemporary artistic language.
