Hannah Macfarlane is a Cape Town–based artist who works experimentally at the intersection of fine art and craft. She uses traditional wool-working techniques to explore embodied catharsis and labour, and to highlight our interconnectedness with nature, history, and one another. Fascinated by the process of wet felting and the broader material and symbolic potential of wool, Macfarlane creates visual and tactile metaphors for intimacy and vulnerability. She graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Art in 2020 with a BA in Fine Art, and in 2021 participated in Latitude’s ArtistLab mentorship programme. Since then, she has exhibited widely across South Africa, as well as in London and Paris, and her work is held in international collections.
