001 - “Hope” – Oil on Canvas Painting by Sue Maas

LOT NOT SOLD

Opening Bid: 35 000 ZAR

CLOSING BID

35 000 ZAR

This painting, entitled "Hope", is something very different from Sue Maas’s normal wildlife paintings. After attending a presentation by Stop Trafficking Of People NPC, she decided to paint it, to draw attention to the enormous problem of human trafficking. People need to be aware of this massive scourge in society, and spread the word.

Lady Bird Johnson once said, "Where flowers bloom so does HOPE", hence the title “Hope”.

The painting was done with oil on canvas.

The size is 118cm x 84cm. Note that it is NOT framed.

Sue says the Lord has pointed out the following symbolism in the painting:

  1. The little girl in a field of poppies speaks of innocence and trust.
  2. The butterfly alighting on the poppy the child is touching, calls to mind new life and innocence.
  3. The red poppies - flowers of remembrance for those lost.
  4. The flowers that are fading into the distance - people lost to trafficking (particularly children and young people, but nobody is exempt).
  5. The little girl clutching the two poppies - hold on to each other and always be mindful of the danger.
  6. The tangled undergrowth - trafficking is a huge problem with so many facets that are so difficult to unravel.

Part of the proceeds from the auction of this painting will go to Stop Trafficking Of People NPC.
